?? A day in the life of Pinecrest Elementary is full of creativity, learning, and community connections! We caught up with teacher-librarian Ms. Watkinson, who was reading a heartwarming story about friendship to a captivated class. Meanwhile, Ms. Quinn’s grade 4/5 students got hands-on with pottery, shaping clay with guidance from Noella from the Crow’s Nest Collective ? – a fantastic opportunity for students to dive into arts and crafts. Ms. Heyd’s and Ms. Billing’s grade 4/5 class had an important social/emotional lesson on the impact of negative self-talk and ways to counter it with positive affirmations with Ms. Heyd. Elsewhere in the school, Ms. Baker’s grade 1/2 classroom read a story about peace with TTOC Ms. McMillan and shared their own ideas of what peace means to them as they brainstormed for a special writing assignment ??. Ms. Kennedy’s class headed into the forest for a "listening walk" after a science lesson on sound with their student-teacher Ms. Johnston. The challenge? Walking in complete silence to pick out and count the sounds of nature – a unique way to sharpen observation skills and connect with the environment ??. The day was capped off with a visit from the Campbell River Fire Department, who brought the Fire Safety House to teach students the essentials of fire safety. Students learned the importance of smoke alarms, how to find the safest exit during an emergency, and why every family should have a meeting place. ?? This day at Pinecrest Elementary was a wonderful example of how learning can extend beyond the classroom, engaging students in meaningful experiences that spark curiosity, creativity, and life skills!
